My country is one of the best tourist destination in Africa. It is located in West Africa, boarding the East by
Atlantic Ocean and surrounded three sides by Senegal to the north, east, and south. It has a total land area of 11,300, sq.km.
It is pleasant with a sub-tropical climate with distinct wet seasons. Virtually uninterrupted dry weather with glorious sunshine.
The Gambia has a variety of wildlife which incumbent with lots of animals, the River Gambia with a great tributary, rich in
diversity of culture with lot of historical sites, hotels, bars and restaurants. I know life is very beautiful out there.
Wildlife is one of the most attractive things in this small country, it is often said that birds are for the Gambia what
wildlife is for East Africa. Government has designed seven protected areas to serve as sanctuary for birds and other wildlife.
There are lots of different types of birds that I have seen and can be still seen in different parts. Birds watchers comes
from all over the world, example Holland, England, Germany, and United States just to name a few. The best know for these
wildlife and birds is Abuko Nature Reserve which is just 24 kilometers from the capital city Banjul. In Abuko there are lots
of animals' examples Lions, big and different type of Snakes. Birds, Monkeys are all over the place. Costal land dry season
duration and nice beaches with safari/south Gambia. Different operators have different names for this full day tour using
4-wheel drive land rovers or ex-army trucks. You can also visit small fishing villages and experience of life in the rural
areas. It is so wonderful to see those animals.
It is often said that The River Gambia is the Gambia and the Gambia is the river Gambia. No wonder the country is named
after this majestic river. This river is very beautiful and has a granular artificial structure, which has a gargantuan water
span which glitters when sun rise like a golden diamond. The temperature is more than the sound welcome. The river Gambia
is the major tourist attraction and the dominant feature of the country. This great river rises in the Futa Jallon highlands
in the Republic of Guinea to its mouth in the Atlantic Ocean. In a serene and tranquil way, the river meanders majestically
along the entire length and breadth of the country. The numerous bolongs or Creeks adjoining the river provide sanctuaries
for treasured birds and fish species, which are highly coveted by bird watchers and students of nature. The surroundings comprise
lot of activities like boat riding, fishing, and physical working out, relaxing just to name a few, the river has wide area
where you can play beach ball and soccer. The tranquil waters of the majestic River Gambia also provide habitation for a lots
of the country's wild life such as the hippopotamus and crocodiles. This exotic wildlife is a source of attraction for the
eco- minded tourist. Standing at the edge of the rive side; you will see the view of the Atlantic Ocean. I even forget to
mention the coconut trees and the mangroves around it, which give people a good looking of the river. There are several stunning
houses around it, and any one would like to settle in one of then.
The Gambia has a diverse range of culture; we have seven ethnic groups namely Mandinko, Wollof, Fula, Jolla, Serrehuleh,
Serreh, and Akou. And there are semiliterate and difference in our culture. I have visited all historical sites and they include
Stone Circles Located around Wassu and Kerr Batch in the Central River Division and are believed to be burial moulds of Kings
in ancient times. Fort Bullen Located on the northern extremity of Barra Point, the Fort was built by Commodore Charles Bullen
in 1827 that was sent by the British to consolidate the work of suppressing the slave trade after the passing of the abolition
act of 1857. Fort James Named after one of the sailors who died on the spot, Fort James is situated on James Island near Juffureh
thirty km up the River Gambia. In 1661, the British captured the Island from The Baltic Germans now Latvia who built a Fort
there in 1651.The British then renamed it James Island after the heir to the British throne who became King James the Third
.The Island was finally abandoned around 1773. Old French Trading House (Albreda) Situated in Albreda, which was the French
comptoire in the Gambia for almost two centuries, the former CFAO building used to house the French Governor during the French
occupation of Ablbreda in the 18th century. Village of Juffureh The village of Juffureh is the birthplace of the famous Kunta
Kinteh. Juffureh and Kunta Kinteh became known throughout the world thanks to "Roots"a bestselling novel written on slavery
by an African-American Alex Haley who himself is a descendant of Kunta Kinteh who is an African American. All this are very
interesting sites.
There are several stunning houses around it, and any one would like to settle in one of then. Just at the edge of the
River Gambia, there are lot of high-quality Hotels, beach bar and Restaurants with excellent looking structures. The housing
is very affordable, the prize range from 22 to 600 Dalisis depending on what type of Hotel you want to go to. Bars and Restaurants
are reasonable too, with lot of different type of food, for example Gambian, Indian, International, and Italian, just to name
a few. I know you will love it.
Welcome to the land of No Problem. With the die vise range of wildlife, culture, heritage and great historical sites
and the great smiling coast, which is the River Gambia with lot of Hotels, Bar and Restaurant around it. It is the most excellent
place I have ever seen in the whole of West Africa. I will recommend everyone to go and see this small Gambia, and all that
is in the nucleus. Hence the saying goes seeing is the believing.
